Carotid surgery

Carotid surgery is a preventative surgery that widens the carotid artery through the removal of fat (plaque) so that blood flow to the brain isn’t restricted. If left untreated, narrowing in the carotid artery can lead to blood clots making their way to the brain, causing a stroke. Carotid surgery happens either under local or general anaesthetic depending on the individual patient, and fatty build-up inside the artery is removed manually.
